What is Topic Cluster?

Also called: Content cluster, Hub and spoke

Definition

A topic cluster is a group of related pages, with one main "pillar" page covering a broad topic and several supporting pages covering specific questions, all linked together.

Instead of publishing random blog posts, a topic cluster organizes content around themes your customers care about.

Example

  • Pillar page: “SEO for small businesses”
  • Supporting pages: “How long does SEO take?”, “SEO checklist for new websites”, “What is search intent?”

Each supporting page links to the pillar, and the pillar links back out. This helps search engines and AI tools see that your site covers the topic in depth, and helps visitors find the next useful page.
