What is Organic Traffic?

Also called: Organic search traffic

Definition

Organic traffic is the visitors who reach your website without you paying for the click, usually from unpaid search results, AI answers, social posts or other websites linking to you.

In analytics tools, “organic search” usually means visitors from unpaid Google and Bing results. More broadly, organic growth covers every channel you don’t pay per click for: search, AI answers, social content, referrals and word of mouth.

Organic vs paid traffic

Organic Paid
Cost per click $0 You pay every time
Speed Slower to start Immediate
When you stop investing Keeps working for months or years Stops right away
Trust Earned Labeled as an ad

The best small-business strategies usually start organic and use paid ads selectively, not the other way around.
