What is Internal Linking?

Also called: Internal links

Definition

Internal linking means linking from one page on your website to another page on the same website, helping visitors and search engines find and understand your content.

Internal links are one of the most underrated SEO tools, because they’re completely under your control.

Why they matter

  • They help search engines discover new pages.
  • They signal which pages are most important.
  • They pass authority from strong pages to pages that need a boost.
  • They keep visitors moving toward a decision.

Simple rules

  1. Link to your key service pages from relevant blog posts.
  2. Use descriptive anchor text (“SEO consulting for startups”, not “click here”).
  3. Make sure every page is reachable within three clicks from the home page.
